Tim Nugent
Principal and Consulting Actuary @Milliman
Tim is experienced in the actuarial valuation of pension and welfare benefits, serving both public and private sector clients. Client assignments include actuarial valuations for minimum funding and employer accounting under ERISA, FASB, and GASB standards; cost studies and legislative impacts (including multi-year projections); and government filings. Tim has experience in developing stochastic and deterministic cost-projection models for private and public sector clients to determine future funding levels and the cost of proposed plan changes. He has experience in performing audits for pension plans, including analysis of data, actuarial procedures, and assumptions.
Aaron Shapiro
Consulting Actuary @Milliman
Aaron has served as lead actuary to both public and private sector clients and his expertise includes large governmental retirement programs, multiemployer pension plans, church plans, and corporate single employer pension plans. Assignments have included actuarial valuations, GASB 67/68, experience studies, legislative cost analysis, sensitivity analysis, deterministic and stochastic asset liability modeling, union negotiations, zone status projections, plan design consulting, and expert witness testimony. Aaron has worked with his clients to develop unique client specific pension risk management frameworks to facilitate the decision making process regarding plan design changes, target funded ratios, and surplus management. He has also worked with his clients to identify the employee impacts of plan design changes including replacement income analysis.
Vanessa Vaag
Principal and Consulting Actuary @Milliman
Vanessa specializes in corporate retirement plan consulting. Areas of expertise include all aspects of design, administration, valuation, and consulting on defined benefit plans, supplemental executive plans, and retirement incentive programs. Client assignments include ongoing plan valuation and administration, GAAP and SSAP financial accounting, budgeting and cost projections, legislative compliance, and design and redesign of benefit plans. She has extensive experience with asset-liability forecasts and de-risking strategies, plan terminations, and is a member of Milliman’s international merger and acquisition team. Vanessa regularly speaks before professional and client groups. Her clients have included public entities, hospitals and other not-for-profit organizations, professional organizations, and international corporations.
